Engineer Agreement

The terms that apply to engineers and businesses that take bookings through RentalComply.

Last updated 15 October 2026

1.About this agreement

This agreement is between RentalComply ("we", "us") and the engineer or business that registers to take bookings through rental-comply.co.uk ("you"). It applies alongside our Terms of Service. You accept it when you submit your application, and again if we ask you to accept an updated version.

2.Our role

RentalComply is an online marketplace. We introduce customers to you, take payment on your behalf and pass it on to you, less our fee. We are an intermediary only.

  • You are an independent business. Nothing in this agreement makes you, or anyone who works for you, our employee, worker, agent or partner.
  • Your contract for each job is with the customer. We are not a party to it and do not direct, supervise or control how you carry out the work.
  • You decide how to do the work, using your own skill, equipment and judgement, in line with the law and industry standards.

3.Documents and verification

Before you can take bookings, we check your identity, your public liability insurance, the DBS check and the accreditation needed for each service, for every person who will attend jobs. You confirm that everything you give us is genuine, accurate and up to date.

You must keep these documents in date and tell us straight away if any of them lapses, is suspended or withdrawn, or if anything changes that could affect your right to carry out the work. We may pause your account, or a team member, until a valid replacement is provided.

Our checks rely on the documents provided to us at the time. They are not a guarantee of anyone's competence or the quality of their work, and they do not move responsibility for the work from you to us.

4.Subcontractors and team members

If you run a business that sends subcontractors or staff to jobs, you must add each person to your account and have them approved by us before they attend any job.

  • The person who attends must personally hold the accreditation for that service, for example Gas Safe registration for gas safety checks. Certificates must be issued and signed by the person who carried out the work.
  • When you accept a job you must record which approved team member is attending, and only that person may attend.
  • You are fully responsible to the customer and to us for everyone you send, as if you had done the work yourself, including their conduct, the quality and safety of their work, and any certificates they issue.
  • You are responsible for your arrangements with your team, including their pay, tax, National Insurance and right to work in the UK. They have no contract with us.
  • Your public liability insurance must cover work carried out by your subcontractors and staff, or each of them must hold their own cover of at least the same amount.
  • You must have a lawful basis, and your team member's knowledge, to share their personal details and documents with us.

5.Carrying out the work

  • Attend at the booked time, or tell the customer and us as soon as possible if you cannot.
  • On the appointment day, use "I'm on my way" on the booking so the customer is emailed and knows to be in.
  • If the customer is not there or you cannot get access: wait at least 15 minutes, knock or ring the doorbell, and try to contact them by phone, text or Rental Comply message. Then, while you are still at the property, use "Customer not in?" on the booking to send your arrival time, how long you waited, how you tried to reach them and photos of the property showing the front door and house number. Allow your device to share its location. This report is your proof of attendance and cannot be changed once sent. Without it, or if it is false, the customer will be refunded in full and you will not be paid for the visit.
  • Carry out the work with reasonable care and skill, safely, and in line with the law, your accreditation and industry standards.
  • Upload the certificate or report for each completed job promptly. Your payout for a job is released once its certificate is uploaded.
  • Treat customers, tenants and their property with respect, and keep any personal information you see confidential.

6.Responsibility and liability

You are solely responsible for the work you and your team carry out and for any loss, damage or injury it causes. Customers' claims about the work should be made against you and your insurers.

You agree to cover us for any claims, losses, costs and reasonable legal fees we incur because of the work you or your team carry out, false or out-of-date information or documents you give us, or a breach of this agreement by you or your team.

We are not liable to you for loss of profit, loss of business or indirect losses. Our total liability to you under this agreement in any 12-month period is limited to the fees we charged you in that period.

Nothing in this agreement limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law.

7.Suspension and ending this agreement

You can stop taking bookings and close your account at any time, but you must complete or properly cancel any jobs you have already accepted.

We may suspend or close your account, or remove a team member, if documents lapse, we receive serious complaints, we suspect fraud or unsafe work, or you or your team break this agreement.

8.Changes and governing law

We may update this agreement, for example to reflect changes to our services or the law. We will tell you about significant changes, and may ask you to accept the new version before taking further bookings.

This agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
